Christmas and New Year

Posted by george

Well Christmas was great. Except for me gaining 4 kilograms of weight! I am not blaming myself though, I am blaming my wife. She put all this nice stuff in front of me and knew I wouldn’t be able to resist. Just kidding. I already anticipated gaining weight during Christmas. I have been exercising for 3 days now and lost half of those extra kilograms. New Year is coming up so I can see myself doing a lot more intensive exercising once that is over and all the tasty food is consumed. My wife gained 3 kilograms herself so it was worth it :)

Have a great New Year.

Suburban sprawl linked to weight

Posted by george

I always enjoy reading new weight-related studies. This one is about a possible link between weight problems and suburban areas. Apparently sprawling suburbs are twice more likely to have overweight teens as more combat urban areas. Compact living areas cause you to walk more, and be more active in general.

US children who live in expansive suburbs may start to pay for it with expansive waistlines, new research suggests.

Using data from a national health survey, researchers found that teenagers living in sprawling suburbs were more than twice as likely to be overweight as teens in more compact urban areas.

The findings echo those of a 2003 study by the same researchers that focused on US adults. The researchers believe the same factors may be driving the link between suburban living and teenagers’ weight - the major one being reliance on cars.

Rowing and more.

Posted by george

I am spending more time on my rowing machine than before. It really improves your stamina and allows you to do more heavy stuff. I am really liking it. And it’s just not because of that. Christmas and New Year are coming up so it’s one of those periods that it doesn’t hurt losing as much weight as possible before the holidays start. I started 2 weeks ago and really forced myself to keep exercising and eating healthy. I lost about 1.5 kilograms so far and am pretty sure I can make it to 4 kilograms before Christmas. No doubt I will gain those 4 kilograms back after the holidays, but at least I can take it better this way! My wife feels that I should forget about weight loss during Christmas and New Year. I suppose she is right. It’s time to have fun, eat tasty stuff and enjoy yourself in general. I am ready for it!

Your weight and age

Posted by george

The UK newspaper the Mirror has an interesting article about weight on their website (no subscription needed). It has quite a few tips on how to keep your weight under control from your 20s to your 60s. I am not sure whether it’s a good idea to take moviestars and other celebrities as example though, because they are not exactly average humans like you and me. I guess it’s merely a reference point. Anyway, the article is good and I got a bunch of tips that I can use in my life, I am sure you can get some good ideas out of it as well.

LOOKING at the slim bodies of Helen Mirren, Joanna Lumley, Goldie Hawn and Cher, it’s hard to believe they are old enough to pick up their pensions.

But while these sexy 60-somethings still have the same fantastic figures they had in their 20s or 30s, sadly this isn’t the case for most of us. In the UK, twice as many women are overweight or obese by the time they hit their 60s compared with in their 20s. However, it’s possible to avoid piling on the pounds over the years. Just make a few simple changes to your diet and exercise routine to match the changes that happen to your body each decade.

Major Weight Loss

Posted by george

Time for a rather odd story from the United Kingdom. A guy there almost lost 300 pounds by following the Atkins diet. Now, I have no idea whether it’s true what this guy is saying but the story is interesting nonetheless. He went from weighing 483 pounds to a respectable 203 pounds! His waist was 66 inch, he wasn’t even able to drive his car round town. There is some sad parts in the story as well about him not being able to have a social life due to his amazing size. If you look at the photos in the article you’ll not believe it’s the same man. Again, I don’t know what is true and what not. Just read it and decide for yourself. An entertaining read.

Graham King used to weigh an eye-popping 483 pounds with a 66-inch waist and was so fat he couldn’t even drive a car. He even had trouble walking as little as 50 feet without gasping for breath and nearly fainting. He admits his health was rapidly declining and he was a high risk for having a heart attack or stroke, was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and his blood pressure was off the charts. Then when it came time to weigh him at the doctors office, he was too big and had to go through the “humiliating” experience of being put in a sling to be weighed.

You could say Graham was in desperately bad shape because of his morbid obesity. Like so many of us who allowed our weight to get way up there, Graham grew up around a culture of high-carb foods and encouraged to “clean his plate.”
